What causes this sound?

Recommended Posts

first, this alt was from the junkyard. Charges at 14.9 on cold start.

Sound comes every time i start the car up, and lasts about 20 mins then goes away. I know for a fact it's the alt, because I dissconnected the whole power steering pump and started the car and the sound still was there. The belts are new. I'm not tightening the belt, as it's sung already. Last time I overtightened, belts snapped and fucked up the engine pully.

My guess is the alts going bad. What do you think?
