1992Chevy K1500 Posted October 3, 2009 Report Share Posted October 3, 2009 I've been reading and have to say, No one can tell how loud your exhaust is unless they hear it in person, so they don't know how loud it is! Now, to see if it's too loud, have a buddy get in and start it. Go 150 feet away and see if you can hear it. If not, have your buddy rev it to 2000 rpm. If you can hear it, it's too loud and you will get pulled over (most likely). Some companies manufacture special restrictors. They are electrically motorized and can close down to about 1" ID. When fully open, they let your exhaust be as loud as you want. When closed, they keep it super quiet. I was at a car show once when I met a guy who had some. He had a Dodge charger (older model). Except for those exhaust restrictor valves (not sure of the proper name or where to find them), he had straight pipes. He started his car up with them closed and you almost couldn't hear it. But once it warmed up, he revved it up to 3k rpm and then hit the switch to open them. Nobody could get within 15 feet of the car. <-- yeah, it's that loud. I'm going to look into them when I rebuild my engine. If I were you, I'd get some.
